Natural, clear lighting is often a desired attribute for many households, but even large windows can do a poor job of letting in the sunshine if they aren’t kept clean. Although windows typically only need to be washed twice a year, many people don’t look forward to this infrequent task.
However, doing the job properly can make the chore go much quicker and feel less like, well, a chore. If you want to clean your windows quickly and efficiently, then you should invest in the tool of the professionals: a squeegee. This one item will make your job much easier, plus it will prevent streaks if used right.
We recommend squirting some dishwashing liquid into a bucket of warm water. Don’t get too many suds, though. Then wash the windows with your homemade solution using cloth so you won’t scratch the glass. A small amount is all that is needed. Too much will increase your chances of streaks.
Then use the squeegee to remove the solution. Right-handed individuals should start at the top left and pull the squeegee over the soapy pane in a reverse-S pattern. Left-handed individuals will start at the right and make an S pattern. After each stroke, use a cloth to wipe the blade. Wiping the blade clean is incredibly important for streak-free windows.
If there are any drips, use a damp but wrung out chamois or rag to wide away from the excess water and cleaning solution.
Now sit back and enjoy the clear light streaming in through your clean windows, and rest easy in the knowledge that you won’t have to do this task again for another 6 months.
